Feelings of shame. In my experience of working with children and young people shame is the most powerful, destructive and paralysing of all emotions. An inability to manage shame can lead to toxic shame, which in turn can lead to risk taking behaviours, anxiety, depression, self harm, eating disorders, permanent exclusions from school and mental health problems.
